When Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval said “I have a plan” in explaining his moves to cut the tourism and economic development budgets, he wasn’t just flapping his lips. He’s now moved to cut $826,913 that the city budgets for the symphony, ballet and opera, and to redirect tourism money to the Tom Waddell urgent care clinic and to HIV/AIDS programs. … Sandoval is clearly building a strong case: As folks clammor for a leaner government that makes public safety the No. 1 goal, what’s more important, using taxpayer money for health programs, or for the opera? … And what’s better for tourism? A Not in LA campaign, or keeping keeping poor folks healthy and off the streets? …
